Bill Callahan will embark on a long tour following the release of his latest slow-burning and meditative folk album, Apocalypse. For the inaugural show kicking off a set of dates that stretch into the beginning of August (Dublin will be his next stop after Austin), Callahan will play the Mohawk here in his adopted hometown.
Both fans of Callahan's early work under the Smog moniker and listeners who appreciate his later, more open-armed recordings under his own name will find something very special in this live performance. Often with just a guitar as accompaniment, this performer's varied interpretations of his own work is simply a wonderful experience (for a taste, there's Rough Travel for a Rare Thing, out last year).
Performing with Callahan is Sophia Knapp, a solo artist to whom we were first introduced when she fronted the band Lights. Lights morphed into Cliffie Swan, and Knapp's lone Drag City "7 is called Nothing to Lose and is available to sample here.
