!Women Art Revolution screening tonight at Alamo Ritz [preview]
Director Lynn Hershman Leeson's acclaimed documentary took her 42 years to make. A leading voice and authority in the Feminist Art Movement, she's crafted this film with contemporary interviews and rarely seen historical footage.
After screening at the Toronto Film Festival and earlier this year at Sundance, the movie was acquired by Zeitgeist Films. The Hollywood Reporter called the documentary "comprehensive and vibrant" after its initial festival appearances, and we're getting a special screening tonight at the Alamo Ritz thanks to the Austin Film Society Documentary Tour.
Carrie Brownstein (formerly of Sleater-Kinney, current star of IFC's Portlandia) scores the film, which also features a powerful soundtrack from the likes of Laurie Anderson, The Gossip, Erase Errata and Janis Joplin.
All Austin Film Society members (and students with valid I.D.) can attend for just $5! Tickets for everybody else are still a bargain at $8. Come out to this film to learn a lot and support quality documentary filmmaking.
