Wildfires Raged All Weekend in West Texas

Central Texas firefighters have joined forces to help quell the massive wildfires that have now covered almost 125 square miles.

The Statesman reports that over 50 homes have been destroyed by the fires in the Fort Davis area, but no deaths or injuries have been reported. According to the Texas Forestry Service, over 100,000 acres burned due to 24 fires over the weekend.

Marfa public radio is providing regular updates on-air and on their website. You should also stop by KUT's website where engineer Jim Reese reported on his weekend trip to Marfa to help support the radio station's mountain-top transmitter failure during massive power outages. Reese reports that though roads are open and power is on, the fires still rage.
