Doug Dorst collaborates with J.J. Abrams on a Novel
Fanatical "LOST" fans rejoice! J.J. Abrams, who is responsible for one of the most successful television shows of the last decade and the most confusing show of all time, is announcing exciting new work! Very little has been made public about this new project except that it is a novel, it “will explode the bonds of the novel in ways no book has ever done,” and that Abrams will be collaborating with Austin’s Doug Dorst.
Dorst is a creative writing professor at St. Edward’s. His novel, Alive in Necropolis, and his collection of stories, The Surf Guru, are both fantastic arguments for candidacy as a collaborator with Abrams. Having been compared to Dashiell Hammet and his work compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dorst has a thrilling style that might just help Abrams make good on the “uniquely exploding novel bonds” promise. As unreachably amazing as that PR sound byte is, this remains very exciting and well-deserved news for one of Austin’s most talented writers. Little, Brown, will publish the novel in 2012.
