Austin Bakes For Japan: Citywide Charity Bake Sale This Saturday

In the wake of the tragedy in Japan, Austin's food community has sprung into action to help the victims abroad. This Saturday, April 2, some of Austin's best bake shops and home bakers are donating their time and tasty talents to raise money for AmeriCares relief efforts in Japan. Kathryn Hutchison, creator of The Austin Gastronomist, is bringing together Austin bloggers, foodies, and local businesses for a good, old-fashioned bake sale called Austin Bakes for Japan.

The following locations across the city will play host to the bake sale this Saturday:

Downtown: Woof Gang Bakery Austin, 1204 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, 78703 (10 AM-2 PM)
North Central: Foreign & Domestic, 306 E. 53rd Street, Austin, 78751 (10 AM-2 PM)
South: Hotel San Jose, 1316 South Congress Avenue, 78704 (10 AM-2 PM)
East: Nomad Bar, 1213 Corona Drive, Austin, 78723 (10 AM-2 PM)

Austin Bakes for Japan location open later as part of a Community Block Party:
West: Shops at Mira Vista, 2785 Bee Cave Road, Suites 336 & 341, Austin, 78746 (10 AM-5 PM)

Pictured here are homemade cake ball pops decorated to look like Sanrio characters. They were created by Objects of Confection and Kathy Phan of kathyphantastic, and may just be too cute to eat. Check out a preview of lots of other baked goods guaranteed to make your sweet tooth tingle on the official Austin Bakes for Japan blog here. Donations can be made at any sale location via cash or check made out to AmeriCares Japan. If you can't make it to the sale, consider donating online here.
