Pioneering American punk band X was a force of nature in its prime, and that was in large part due to the presence of singer Exene Cervenka. Her caterwauling vocals and uncommon lyrics (she’s a published poet) helped guide X to explosive performances, a beloved catalog and legendary status.

But she’s hardly rested on her laurels since X entered into its off-and-on twilight years. As the author of a half-dozen solo albums, plus LPs from the bands the Original Sinners and Auntie Christ, she’s pushed her career far beyond mere “current/former member of X” status. She may not always bring the thunder anymore, but, as the gorgeous country/folk/rock of her latest The Excitement of Maybe attests, she always shines. And her recent diagnosis of multiple sclerosis shows no sign of slowing her down.

Billed as “An Acoustic Evening,” her Mohawk show will find her joined by SoCal pal Kevin Seconds of underground punk heroes 7 Seconds.
