It's hard to beat Flatstock with a stick. The poster art smorgasbord known brings a completely mind boggling volume of poster art together in one place. In the case of Flatstock 29, kicking off this Wednesday, that place is the Austin Convention Center. And, no need to worry about getting in -- the whole shebang is free and open to the public.

Flatstock features a wide range of artists from across the globe, including several from Austin. Take in live printing demonstrations, and get your eyes stuffed full with posters and prints -- including gigposters for almost every band you can imagine. Just about everything that isn't nailed down is for sale, too, so take this as a prime opportunity to upgrade your wall art and load up on stickers, patches, designer toys, and all manner of neat bits and bobs.

The range of emerging and established artists is usually pretty great -- Eleanor Grosch was there before she partnered with Keds, and Tara McPherson was there before she partnered with, well, it seems like everyone these days. (And, FYI: McPherson will be around this year, too.) Locals slated to be showing their work include Billy Perkins, Kollective Fusion, and The Decoder Ring Design Concern, among others.

Learn more on the Flatstock blog, and on the official SXSW page for Collectors Exhibitions. For those of you who are serious about your poster collecting, do show up early -- artists often bring limited editions. And, for those of you who might like something nice, but aren't seasoned in the ways of poster art, don't get all intimidated; prices usually start at $10 and less and then go on up from there. Smaller prints and buttons are usually quite affordable and more than worth the asking price.

Additionally, Flatstock will be showcasing free music throughout the day on the Waller Creek Patio. A full lineup is available here.
