SXSW Film Preview: The Future
Miranda July won over audiences with her 2005 debut feature Me and You and Everyone We Know. It has felt like an eternity waiting for her to return with a new film, but she's finally done it with The Future.
The movie had its World Premiere earlier this year at Sundance where it was chased after by several indie film distributors. It ultimately ended up in the hands of Roadside Attractions, who will release it nationwide this summer.
Booked as part of the Festival Favorites lineup, The Future tells the story of a Silverlake couple who adopt a stray cat named Paw Paw. We've learned from reading Sundance reviews that he's the narrator of the film. Perhaps this would make a good double feature with Mike Mills' Beginners, which features a "talking" dog whose thoughts are subtitled on screen?
The Playlist called it "surreal, precious, devastating & brilliant." Sounds like a can't miss SXSW movie to us.
The Future plays Sunday, March 13 at 9:30pm at the Alamo Ritz with Miranda July expected to be in attendance. It also plays on Tuesday, March 15th at 4pm at the Regal Arbor and again at the Alamo Ritz at 9:30pm on Wednesday, March 16th.
