SXSW Film Preview: The Catechism Cataclysm

Fans of HBO's "Eastbound & Down" will recognize Steve Little in the lead of Todd Rohal's The Catechism Cataclysm. Fellow Eastbound-ers Jody Hill, Danny McBride and David Gordon Green serve as producers on this outrageous comedy that hit the festival circuit with the tagline "God will fuck you up."

Screening as part of the festival's Emerging Visions lineup, the film introduces us to Father Billy, a young priest on sabbatical who takes off for a canoe trip with an old high school friend. When they get lost in the wilderness, the darkly comic story turns genuinely dark and twisted.

Just last week, IFC Midnight picked the film up for distribution, which prompted Rohal to say "We’re thrilled that IFC Midnight is embracing our mix of Christian values and Satanic ritualism and unleashing it into this troubled world."

Check out David Poland's Sundance in-depth interview with actors Steve Little & Robert Longstreet and SXSW screening times below.

The Catechism Cataclysm plays Saturday, March 12 at 9:30pm at the State Theatre, Friday, March 18 at 7:30pm at the Rollins Theatre and Saturday, March 19 at 10pm at Alamo Lamar. For the full schedule, go to SXSW.com.
