Stereogum returns to SXSW this year bigger and better than ever, having teamed up with the NYC-based record label Sacred Bones and Austin’s own Chaos In Tejas for a free all-day event. Put your spreadsheet down, skip the hassle of running around to twenty different venues, and settle in at Beerland with this international showcase of fourteen bands, which includes a special showcase by Zola Jesus -- the experimental Russian American’s only performance during SXSW this year.
The event kicks off at the easy-to-roll-out-of-bed-and-grab-a-taco-on-your-way hour of 2pm and will rock on until 2am. Stereogum says their line-up, “focuses on the darker side of rock, punk, pop, metal, folk, etc. But you’ll still be able to dance.” Sounds like the perfect place to nurse/nurture that hangover and escape the harsh, sobering mid-afternoon sun by slipping into the dark comforts that Beerland easily accommodates.
In addition to Zola Jesus there will be appearances by a slew of up-and-coming acts including black metal punks Liturgy, atmospheric Norwegians ALTAAR, Detroit’s Human Eye, West Coast doom-folk rocker Chelsea Wolfe, Moon Duo, Soft Moon, Cult Of Youth, Pop.1280, Australia’s Slug Guts, Veronica Falls, Toronto’s Trust, Frankie & the Heartstrings, Amen Dunes, and a DJ set by Berlin’s Anika.
