Staple! Independent Media Expo Afterparty Round-Up

This weekend marks the debut of Staple! Independent Media Expo's very first two-day run, and the underground comic fair is set to celebrate in style with a badass bunch of afterparties, audience participation-fueled art parties and open mics.

On Friday, Staple! will be hosting a pre-party meet & greet with some of the expo's exhibitors and panelists at Austin Books & Comics. Got some questions for one of your favorite indie illustrators? Now's your chance to ask them, and also browse through some local bestselling comics.

Saturday and Sunday, after Staple! closes down the Marchesa, they'll be taking over Club Deville, throwing totally free afterparties both nights. Starting at 9 PM on Saturday, come check out the Live Art & DJ Throwdown, co-sponsored by KOOP Radio. Feel like showing off your artistic side? Sign up for an easel and illustrate for the crowd while DJ Digg spins tunes and takes your requests. On Sunday night at 8 PM, The New Movement Theater will be bringing their anything-goes open mic night, Block Party, to the Deville's stage. Sign up ahead of time or arrive early to claim your spot on the lineup, and the funny folks at TNM will give you five full minutes of stage time to do whatever you please -- stand up, improv, wacky monologue, food fight, whatever. WIth activities running all weekend, there's no excuse not to check out some Staple!-sponsored good times.

Admission to STAPLE! is $10 for a one-day pass, or $15 for a two-day pass. Exhibition hall hours are Saturday, 11-6 and Sunday 12-6. For a full schedule of panels and events, check their site.
