Indie Picks: At The Movies This Weekend

Want to increase your chances of winning the annual Oscar pool in your office this year? There are a few options for you this weekend to finish seeing all the major nominees. In most cities, film buffs don't have a chance to see the Oscar Nominated short films. Luckily for us, Austin is not like most cities.

Over the next week, the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz has your chance to see the five films nominated for Best Live Action Short (The Confession, The Crush, God Of Love, Na Wewe and Wish 143) along with the five nominees for Best Animated Short (Pixar's Day & Night, The Gruffalo, Madagascar Carnet De Voyage, The Lost Thing and Let's Pollute).

We also get a full-length Oscar nominee hitting town as Sylvain Chomet's The Illusionist opens at the Regal Arbor this weekend. Nominated for Best Animated Feature Film (over the likes of hits like Disney's Tangled), this French delight is from the director of The Triplets Of Belleville and based on an unproduced 1956 script by Jacques Tati. It was already named Best Animated Feature at the European Film Awards and was recognized with a special Spotlight Award by the National Board Of Review.
