The trio has been kicking out aural guitar rock since 2005, but they made their official debut in the Austin scene with 2008’s self-titled EP. Since then, they’ve been featured on the Matador Records Casual Victim Pile compilation and hailed by Pitchfork as a band with staying power and next-big-thing potential.

This month marks the release of the band’s “Wooden Bones” single. The title track is as melancholy and airy as its autumnal artwork, but it still packs a punch that is solidified by the brooding snarl of B-side “Antlers.” The guitar tones are warm, the rhythms are fluid yet driving and vocalist Lauren Green’s smooth cries tie it all together with an energy that is at times entrancing and at other times searing.

It’s a solid offering to showcase before a tour, and a promising precursor of things to come on the band’s full-length, due out later this year. Dikes of Holland, Holy Wave and Silent Diane open.
