Weekend Music Preview: Freedom
Free week concludes with a big tasty slab o' weekend shows, so if you haven't been out on the town yet and are feeling guilty about it, now's your chance to get caught up with all the music you've been missing when you were at home on Tuesday, watching Nip/Tuck. Brown-eyed punk and rock finds a home at the Beauty Bar on Friday night, what with Brownout, Maneja Beto, Roxy Roca, and Este Vato all performing. Being inside The Mohawk will be loud and squiggly with such acts including Motel Aviv, Zorch, Look Mexico, and will feature the rare appearance of Attak (In)Formation. Outside, you can check out Indian Jewelry, The Laughing, and Astronaut Suit. What else is poppin' on Friday? We'd be remiss to not mention Adi's First Friday Frolic, a benefit for AMP featuring musicians like Erin Ivey and One Hundred Flowers, DJs like uLOVEi and I Wanna Be Her. Adi's also promising Big Red.
On Saturday, insurgent country gets a big boost at Red7, featuring performances from Black Eyed Vermillion, The Inheritance, Western Ghost House, Country Willie, Town Hall Devils, as well as West End Motel and Fiend without a Face, with the latter two featuring Brent Hinds of Mastodon. A bunch of bands are playing the Beauty Bar's inside and outside stages, including but not limited to Terp 2It, My Education, Sundress, Pop Pistol, and many more. Meanwhile, the ND is serving up The Pons, Leatherbag, Wiretree, and DJ Czech One.
Things wind down by Sunday, but if you need one last big influx of free, the stalwarts at Red7 play host to Transmography, The Blind Pets, Ginsu Wives, Perpetual Werewolf, and, boasting the best name this side of no actual words, OMGWTFBBQ.
