Food: Izzoz Tacos To Close On Friday

Another sad bit of food trailer news this week: the highly-regarded Izzoz Tacos will be closing indefinitely (and perhaps permanently) on Friday 12/31 after "attempts to renew their lease fell through" according to a Twitter posting last night. A patron who visited Izzoz on Tuesday told Austinist that employees stated that the lot owners have asked Izzoz for a substantial rent increase which the business simply could not afford. While the trailer has been looking for a new location, they do not currently have a spot lined up.

This isn't the first time a popular taco trailer has moved from the 1207 South 1st Street lot - in mid-2008, Torchy's moved south from this address to their current location at 1311 South 1st. If you've not yet had the chance to dine at Izzoz, it would be wise to hurry, since only three guaranteed business days remain. The Bob Bowman (roasted chicken), Fried Avocado (w/ arugula and chipotle sherry sauce), and The Slowrider (braised beef w/ cotija and cilantro) are all outstanding options.

Here's to hoping we hear of a re-opening for Izzoz in 2011.

The food trailer court at South First and Live Oak has "space for rent" signs up. Wonder if this would work for them?

No! This place is legendary on the taco circuit. The migas tacos are 2nd to none...and the original crispy is what children's dreams are made of!

  • Damn, just had some Izzoz on Monday night.
