Austin trio Followed By Static will pack everything they can into a song, genre conventions be damned. Casio beats, organ drones, tribal drums, noisy guitar squall—it’s like an instrumental garage sale distilled on record.

Their inherent raggedness is still somewhat dynamic. Songs like “AADC” start off sweet before exploding into a crunchy guitar workout, but they’re pulled taut with thundering rhythms lest the whole thing careen off the rails into senseless noise. Lead singer Eric Static conveys a soulfulness that’s hard to find in noisy outfits like these, letting in just enough bluesy beauty to elevate the group above your average garage band. They only have a few 7-inches to their name, but the short blasts are easy to get lost in.
