Weekend Music Preview: Killa Beez, Misprint, Blasphemous Metal
We have a lot of acts coming through town this week, maybe because it's that sweet spot right before Christmas turns everything into a winter wonderland and we break out The Beach Boys' Christmas Album. Yup, until then we have the Wu visiting Austin, a party for Misprint magazine, and a KVRX Holiday Show. Let's proceed.
Misprint is hosting their Holiday Party at Club 1808, featuring the bands Marriage and Whitesquirrels, which in turn are made up of members from other bands like The Hot Pentecostals and Expensive Shit. As usual, Misprint is so cutting edge that they're hosting bands that barely exist (how this jives with their "End Live Music" campaign is a mystery, however), and DJ Huge Cock will be spinning between bands.
Or maybe you're more dedicated to University of Texas student radio, 91.7 KVRX. That's cool, because they're hosting their own thing at the United States Art Authority, featuring bands like Mermaid Blonde, Milk Thistle and Western Ghost House. Also: "Remember to ride your bike! $3 of your cover will go to Yellow Bike Project when you ride your bike!" Bikes!
Hopefully you die hard fans of the Wu-Tang Clan snatched up your tickets for Saturday's show, 'cuz it's all sold out. Wowza. That's okay, though, because you still have options, including - can this be real? - Biz Markie (the one, the only) DJing at the Scoot Inn with opening acts Drastik, Kaizen, and Kid Slyce.
And there's a lovely show taking place at the Beauty Bar. The "I Wanna Be Your Dog! Benefit For Austin Pets Alive will raise money to help said organization "Make Austin a No Kill City." To that end, they'll have a Stooges cover band called Penetrations performing, and so many activities, including a "people and pet lookalike/talent contest" and silent auction. It's a five dollar suggested donation, and "chaperoned pets welcome." Un-chaperoned pets...what are you doing downtown anyway? Go back home.
Sunday will be a day set aside for metal. Eyehategod is storming Red7, bringing along Phobia, Kill The Client, Pack of Wolves, and HOD. And yeah, that's a lot of stuff! Get out there and shake things up.
