Ah, the school cafeteria. If you went to a public school, you probably have fond (or maybe not-so-fond) memories of lunch trays, tiny cartons of milk, chicken nuggets shaped like dinosaurs, and square pizza (admit it, you loved the square pizza. We did). The folks at Hosteria Verde Supper Club and Aviary Lounge want to take you back to those halcyon days, with a decidedly grown-up twist.

Join them this Sunday for School Night, where you’ll enjoy complimentary wine and beer, along with a menu that’s sure to please the kid in you while satisfying your grown-up palette. Pile your tray with sloppy joe sliders, chicken fingers, broccoli and cheese bites, mashed potatoes, mac'n'cheese, peas and carrots, and fried apple pie, all while sipping a specially-made juice-box cocktail.

To complete the experience, you’ll be laughing/cringing at such timeless educational films as Narcotics: The Pit of Despair, which stars a young Kevin Tighe and cautions about the dangers of drug use. (Did you know smoking pot can lead to heroin addiction if you’re not careful? Be careful, Kevin Tighe!)

If you’ve never been to Aviary Lounge, this event is a great opportunity to check out this little gem on South Lamar. Home decor shop by day, wine bar and lounge by night, Aviary and its genial owner/host Marco offer wines by the glass or bottle, snacks, live music, and weekly specials. Hosteria Verde was founded by the talented Anne Rutt-Enriquez and takes its name from the hosterias in Mexico and Spain's countryside, where people join together at the table for the cuisine and community. So make your reservation for School Night and line up boy-girl-boy-girl - no shoving, kids!
