Wednesday, November 17
Whole Foods Downtown (525 N Lamar)
Free, 6-7pm
[info]
For a free, drop-in experience, head to Whole Foods Market at 6pm for a complimentary sample of six different wines from the Whole Foods 2010 Top 10 Holiday Wines list. On offer this evening:
- De Chanceny Crémant de Loire
- Römerhof Riesling
- Simonnet-Febvre Saint-Bris
- Dievole Dievolino Sangiovese di Toscana
- Valley of the Moon Syrah
- Paso a Paso Tempranillo (from organic grapes)
For those who already have one or more of the wines at home (or that want to share their thoughts from the store), you can follow the #WFMWine hashtag to see tasting notes and thoughts from both Whole Food wine buyers Geoff Ryan and Doug Bell and from attendees at both the Lamar store and other events around the country.
If you'd rather pair your holiday wine with some gourmet snacks, you're in luck, as TRIO at The Four Seasons also has a Twitter event cooked up for this evening. Beginning at 6pm, noted sommelier Mark Sayre will be leading a live (and a virtual at #FSWine) tasting of three of his holiday picks from TRIO. Sayre's picks for tonight:
- Loosen Bros. Dr. L Riesling
- Paraiso Syrah
- Chappellet Mountain Cuvee
For $18, wine fans can sample all three wines along with the following food pairings: Shrimp Ceviche with chiles and celery for the Riesling, Pork Belly with Pickled Market Vegetables for the Syrah, and Short Rib with Potato Purée for the Chappellet. Quite a happy hour feast for under $20, and at The Four Seasons to boot.
Regardless of your budget, this is a great excuse to try some new wines tonight. Drop-ins are welcome at both events, so go!
