Five-Course Brooklyn Beer Pairing Dinner Tonight At 24 Diner

Anyone who's made a late-night pilgrimage to 24 Diner has probably wondered, "Can diner food really be this good? Or am I just really drunk?" Thanks to chef Andrew Curren (who graduated valedictorian of his class at the Culinary Institute of America), it really is that good.

Tonight, Curren is closing down the diner for a special pairing dinner with his favorite beer maker -- Brooklyn Brewery. The event marks the launch of Brooklyn's latest brew -- the Brooklyn Blast Pale Ale, which has been described as floral, grassy and herbal with a hint of pineapple.

Enjoy five courses plus appetizers, each with a different Brooklyn beer. Though it sounds like a lot of food, each dish is carefully selected to help guests avoid beer bloat. According to Curren, "The goal is scaling down portions but giving big flavor, showcasing technique and taking care with ingredients."

Courses will include a seared scallop with coconut milk, galangal, cilantro, red chili and lemongrass (served with Brooklyn Blast), house-stuffed merguez sausage with caramelized braised cabbage (Brooklyn Local 2), pork belly with herbed grits and roasted plums (Brooklyn Winter Ale) and a bitter chocolate cake with crème fraîche and pretzel streusel (Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout).

At $55 a seat, a few reservations are still available. Call 24 Diner at (512) 472-5400 to reserve a spot for the 7:00pm pairing dinner.

  • Damn, sad to have missed this. Went to a Blue Smoke / Brooklyn Brewery pairing in NYC one year and it was alot of fun. Garrett Oliver, their brewmaster, told stories of each beer before the course, I wonder if he was there tonight.
