A couple of Austin bands’ album release parties kick off our list of recommended shows this weekend. Head down to Latitude 30 on Friday for the Vampyros Disco’s Costume Ball and enjoy a hearty helping of the Suncopters’ good times rock ‘n’ roll, or swing by Club de Ville on Saturday for a taste of Radar Radar’s indie-pop delicacies. And of course, support local music by picking up each band’s new record!

If '90s classics like “Unsung” and “Wilma’s Rainbow” bring back fond memories, you probably already know that L.A.’s Helmet stop in at Red 7 on Saturday in support of their brand new Seeing Eye Dog full-length. Intronaut, Ratking, and Tow The Line ensure a comprehensive night of high-octane rawk.

Also on Saturday, The Reverberation Appreciation Society presents a premiere screening of the official Austin Psych Fest 3 film at The Mohawk. The shindig features live sets from Wooden Shjips, The Growlers, Mondo Drag, and Rayon Beach and doubles as a launch party for Laced With Romance Vintage’s online store. Dress to impress this evening and you just may win gift certificates from the local business, or Fun Fest and Psych Fest tickets.

By the time Halloween arrives on Sunday, you may have already debuted your top costume for the year, and perhaps even paraded a second choice effort over the course of the weekend. But that’s no reason to stay in, especially since there’s a number of enticing events to choose from on the 31st itself. Below, we round up Sunday’s top options:

  • Butthole Surfers at Scoot Inn -- underground idols bring the noise and much mayhem, no doubt; equally iconic cult favorites Meat Puppets get things started. The Surfers perform 1987’s Locust Abortion Technician in its entirety at the same venue on Friday.
  • Die Antwoord at La Zona Rosa -- South African phenoms peddle intriguing hip-hop concoctions; offer plenty of costume options.
  • Matthew Dear at The Mohawk -- innovative electro from the Texan born producer; Best Fwends support with a set of Ministry covers.
  • …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead’s Halloween Party at Red 7 -- local legends satisfy with selections mined from fifteen years of brilliance (and hopefully offer previews off a recently completed new record.) Beauty Bar hosts a free Costume And Dance Party afterwards; dress up as your favorite musician and dance the night away to retro fare courtesy of DJ Jason McNeeley.
  • And finally, two epic tribute nights worth noting: the Invincible Czars (Iron Maiden’s The Number Of The Beast in full) and Shaolin Death Squad (Mr. Bungle) show at Stubb’s (Inside), and Ghouls Night Out V featuring Children In Heat (Misfits), Queens Of Noise (The Runaways), and Rooster Suicide (Samhain) at Emo’s (inside) guarantee tried and tested material all night long.
