Jónsi Brings Magic to Austin Music Hall [Preview]
Jónsi Birgisson’s unique and imaginative approach to composing complex orchestrations is revealing of a true musical visionary. Much like his work as the Sigur Rós frontman, the eclectic Icelandic talent uses a delicate blend of musical elements to build a mystical atmosphere. Such dedication promises for a very special production tonight at the Austin Music Hall.
Jónsi's premier tour will provide the complete audio visual experience, and an enchanting one at that. The world renowned creative team Fifty Nine Productions is responsible for merging a live take on Jónsi's debut album Go with a stunning visual component - combining aspects of film, art installation, and theater. The result is the framework for a very inspirational experience.
Songs like “Go Do” and “Animal Arithmetic” billow into a whirlwind of melodies and swirl upon whimsical lyrics. They perfectly exemplify the nature of his meticulous orchestrations -- full of budding musical mood swings that bound with operatic intensity. The listening experience alone is innovative and captivating.
Go is largely considered an ambient, post-rock production. The quirky nature of the work is in stride with the lovable eccentricity of Jonsi's previous work in Sigor Rós. With Sigor Rós on hiatus, the crafty musician set out to create a low-key acoustic album. However, Go has obviously taken on a life of it’s own as a beautiful concept album. Jónsi is certainly the mastermind behind the production on vocals, guitar, and organ/piano. Tonight he’ll be accompanied by a touring band including Alex Somers on guitar, soundeffects and keyboards, Thorvaldur Thór Thorvaldsson on drums, Ólafur Björn Ólafsson on keyboards, and Úlfur Hansson on bass and monome.
