Food: Discount Uchi? Yes, Indeed.
Uchi may be Austin's most beloved restaurant: it placed first in The Fearless Critic's most recent edition, scoring a 9.8 out of 10. The rub: it also came in at an average cost of $80 - not unfair given the restaurant's sterling rep, but also not designed for everyday consumption. In a fun twist, Uchi has decided to do a limited "bargain" of sorts by offering a 14-seat community table once a month for just $45. The next event takes place on Monday, 10/25, and as of this writing, a few seats are still available.
Each guest at the community table will receive a 5-course tasting menu chosen by the Uchi chef from the current menu. Those who turn up by 6:45pm for the 7pm seating will also receive a free drink compliments of the house. Beginning in November, Uchi will offer the community table once a month on the third Monday of the calendar (so, 11/15 and 12/20 look to be the next dates.) For reservations, call 512-916-4808 promptly.
Uchi's Tyson Cole is quite a busy man of late: in addition to opening Uchiko on North Lamar this summer, he's also prepping a 2011 expansion to Houston and completing work on a new cookbook.
