Devin Copeland - more commonly known as Devin the Dude - is a suave hip-hop artist from Houston. Anyone with “dude” in their stage name must be a pretty cool dude in our book (shout out to The Dude Himself a.k.a. His Dudeness, Duder or El Duderino if you're not into that whole brevity thing). On occasion, living in Austin means we forget there are other cities in Texas - let alone other cities that have a decent music scene. The truth is, Houston ain’t all that bad, and we should take some time to notice artists coming out of the HTX. Get a head start by checking out Devin the Dude on the Blue Stage at Fun Fun Fun Fest Saturday at 2:55pm. His musical style mixes buttery smooth vocals with bouncy, baller beats and is sure to lend itself to a nice afternoon of beer drinkin’ and music listenin’.

Starting in 1998, Copeland has released six solo albums to date: The Dude, Just Tryin' ta Live, To tha X-Treme, Waitin' to Inhale, Landing Gear, and most recently Suite 420. He’s also made some contributions to other rappers, including Dr. Dre and FFF veteran Astronautalis. But, the dude wasn’t always Devin the Dude. Copeland started out as a member of the Odd Squad, later known as the Coughee Brothaz, a group of rappers signed to Rap-A-Lot Records. He stayed with Rap-A-Lot Records for fifteen years, but is now distributed by E1 Entertainment.

Devin the Dude is a pretty straightforward southern rapper known for keeping a close relationship with fans (and Mary Jane). His Facebook page bio includes a simple “Y’all know me!” and his MySpace is littered with images of babes and cars and 420-friendly references. The intimacy of FFF at Waterloo Park should translate well for this act and leave fans chilled to the max.
