Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings tour extensively to rekindle the Motown of yesteryear in the most authentic way possible - relentless, vigorous live performances. Sassy songstress Sharon Jones and her gang of soul brothers craft vintage funk reminiscent of legendary greats Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight. Backed by Daptone Records’ horn-heavy house band, Ms. Jones delivers feel-good, get-down grooves sure to put a swagger in your step.
The band is currently touring in support of this year’s I Learned The Hard Way, their fourth full-length album since their debut in 2002. Jones is a fiery powerhouse whose commanding stage presence sparks comparisons to Tina Turner, and it's no surprise her reputation has deemed her the moniker “Queen of Funk.”
Songs like “Nobody’s Baby,” “100 Days, 100 Nights,” and “Be Easy” are drenched in doo-whop nostalgia and reveal influences like James Brown, who grew up in the same Georgia town as Jones. Sharon Jones and her boys carry the torch for yesterday's greats and deliver the real deal. Head on out to La Zona Rosa tonight for some good ol’ get down with the Dap-Kings.
