Food: Steak Night Returns To Hotel San Jose Monday

During the height of summer in Austin, a steak can sound like the culinary equivalent of a wool sweater -- way too heavy and guaranteed to make you uncomfortable. But with a distinct hint of fall now in the air, we're overjoyed to welcome the return of steak season. Celebrate by making your reservation for Steak Night at Hotel San Jose this Monday, September 20.

Chef Larry McGuire of Lambert’s and Perla’s will prepare a three-course pre fixe meal including appetizer, entree and dessert. Appetizer options include a wedge salad with Pure Luck bleu cheese, local pear tomatoes, herbs and sherry vinaigrette or late summer gazpacho with pearl couscous, Texas crab and basil oil. Prices are determined by the cut of meat -- McAllen Ranch NY strip ($40) with seared mushroom and shallot relish, Niman Ranch natural rib eye ($40) with fennel salsa verde, Certified Angus beef filet ($45) with hollandaise and fresh horseradish, or ahi tuna steak ($40) with smoked paprika chimichurri. All entrees are served with grilled asparagus, steakhouse potatoes and crispy shallots. Each is a great value considering the quality and quantity of food.

Pace yourself, because you'll want room for dessert -- a Mexia Pear and blackberry cobbler served with homemade vanilla bean ice cream and whipped cream. Wine options for the evening include Fontsainte Corbieres Rouge from France or Hugl Weine Gruner Veltliner from Australia for $9/glass or $34/bottle.

Dinner will be served in the Hotel San Jose's charming, airy courtyard at 1316 South Congress Avenue. Call 512-852-2350 to reserve your spot for 6:30pm, 7pm, 8:30pm or 9pm. If you can't make Monday's Steak Night, not to worry; future dates are scheduled for October 4 and 18.
