Le Diamant Brut: ACL Edition w/ Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible & Black Lips

NORTEC COLLECTIVE PRESENTS: BOSTICH + FUSSIBLE

What’s the Deal: Bostich and Fussible are just two of the members of Tijuana’s Nortec Collective (Nortec is a style of music that comes from the fusion of norteño and techno). The foursome that makes up Nortec Collective (Bostich, Fussible, Hiperboreal and Clorofila) performs live and releases albums only in the configurations of Bostich + Fussible and Hiperboreal + Clorofila, while still maintaining themselves under the banner of the Collective. Just in time for their ACL performance, Bostich + Fussible have released their brand new album, Bulevar 200, on Nacional Records.

Norteño accordions and horn blasts bleed together with beats on the new release to create a sound that’s perfect for motivating your hips or just losing yourself within the layers. The first single from the recording, “I Count the Ways,” is made lush with the addition of Kylee Swenson (of San Francisco’s Loquat) on vocals and the soaring sounds of strings.

Something Interesting: The group also played the annual Pachanga music festival in Austin in 2008, an honor also shared by their Nacional Records label mates M.I.S. in 2009 and Bomba Estereo in 2010.

Other Tracks Worth Checking Out: “Must Love” and “Tijuana Sound Machine”

BLACK LIPS

What’s the Deal: The Black Lips have amassed a strong following over the years devoted to their sometimes wild stage antics and infectious psych garage rock. Fuzzy and jangling guitars, steady and driving beats, and songs easily sung and screamed along to have combined with their troublemaker status making them beloved to fans of rowdy rock and roll. The group’s last album release was 2009’s 200 Million Thousand, however, they do have a few newer tracks circulating in cyberland.

“Best Napkin I Ever Had” was released on a Scion/AV split with Pierced Arrows, and is available for listen. As is “Before You Judge Me,” a track which emerged for the Adult Swim Singles Program. Further back in the catalog, you can find gems in “Cold Hands” and “Navajo.”

Something Interesting: In Austin this ACL, the Black Lips will be playing Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm on October 9th before The xx on the same stage.

Other Tracks Worth Checking Out: “O Katrina!” and “Bad Kids”
