BearCity [aGLIFF Notes]

Doug Langway's BearCity explores relationships within a group that often doesn't get much recognition in the gay community. The movie had its World Premiere earlier this summer at NEWFEST and has subsequently been a big hit at several LGBT festivals. It even received the Los Angeles Outfest 2010 Grand Jury awards for Outstanding Screenwriting and Outstanding Actor in a Feature Film. Now, aGLIFF audiences will get to see what all the buzz is about when BearCity plays as the closing night selection.

The film's main protagonist is actually not a bear, but rather a curious young chaser named Tyler (newcomer Joe Conti). He spends most of his time secretly fantasizing about big hairy men instead of his fellow Chelsea queens. The adventure really begins after he ends up moving in with two married bears and meeting their friend Roger (CSI's Gerald McCullouch), who he falls head over heels in love with.

TLA Releasing is going to be putting BearCity out on dvd later this fall, but you'll probably want to see it with a packed house who will be WOOFing and GRRRRing all the way.

Director Doug Langway will be in attendance for this screening and then the official after party will move on over to Cheer Up Charlie's at 1104 E. 6th Street. You can expect live music from Nakia and the Blues Grifters and a DJ Set from theGlitoris as the festival comes to a close.

BearCity plays at the Alamo South Lamar Sunday at 7. Get more details here. Download the entire festival schedule at the AGLIFF’s site here.
