  • The Mohawk, unsurprisingly, is the place to be all weekend. On Friday, enjoy Grupo Fantasma’s wonderfully cohesive blend of Latin styles, rock, funk, and more at the reliable Red River St. hot-spot. Sample the tunes on El Existential, GF’s stellar second full-length via Topspin; then come down and dance the night away to these truly spellbinding concoctions. Following this evening’s gig, the Grammy-nominated local outfit will stay busy on the road through October.

The Red River on the Rocks extravaganza takes place at the same venue on Saturday. This bash starts early at 3 p.m. and features Georgia’s Dead Confederate, along with quite a few of our favorite Austin bands such as Ume, Built By Snow, STEREO IS A LIE, The Eastern Sea, and Frank Smith. And last, but not least, the talented crew that is Burgess Meredith performs at the 'hawk this Sunday.

  • Celebrate the one year anniversary of Knuckle Rumbler’s Versus series on Friday at Scoot Inn. Ever since the first one last year that pitted Michael Jackson’s catalog against Prince’s, these shindigs have become kind of a phenomenon. This time, DJs Prince Klassen and Orión reinterpret the music of Stevie Wonder and Wu-Tang Clan. RSVP on Do512 to get into Wonder Tang for the low, low price of $3.

  • Do512’s World Record Party at The Highball and Study BreaksThe Magazine Party at The Parish are a couple of other events worth noting this Friday. Watch Austinites indulge in off-the-wall acts such as “Most Tortillas Frisbee Tossed In 30 Seconds” as they attempt to garner recognition in The Universal Record Database at the former while a handful of radio-ready acts, including Suite 709 and Eyes Burn Electric (formerly Dremnt The End) showcase their chops at the latter.
