Do you not already know about Mortified? You probably do, because you almost certainly have at one time worshiped This American Life, or were loyal to the A.V. Club, or maybe you actually read the previous tenant’s Entertainment Weeklys that kept arriving at your apartment. Mortified has been featured everywhere and heralded as a cultural phenomenon for good reason: the show is brilliant. So you’ve probably already shared a video of someone reading their old diary, or playing songs they wrote in junior high, or worse. But maybe you didn't know that Mortified has a two-night engagement tonight and tomorrow at the US Art Authority?

If you have somehow missed it, Mortified is a comic excavation of awkward adolescent poems, diaries, songs (oh, God, the songs) and videos (oh, GOD, the videos). But what the performance franchise seems to forget about itself is that this comedy show is also powerfully cathartic. The Austin show’s very talented producers - Patrick Daniel, Michelle Dahlenburg and Erica Lies - work with each brave contributor to tease out the most painful moments from their pasts, but luckily we all live in the future. That closeted lesbian who wrote awkward notes to her teacher is now a very happy, out lesbian; that friendless, melodramatic adolescent singer/songwriter is now a very normal unemployed musician; etc. If you need some perspective on how ok you actually are, don't miss Mortified.
