Back in 2008, Forbes named Austin the hardest drinking city in the country, so perhaps it’s no accident that film collector Skip Elsheimer has come to warn us of the dangers of overindulgence with some classic 16mm educational films from his collection of over 23,000.

Tonight, as part of the Alamo Drafthouse’s Celebrity Guests Signature Series, the AV Geeks present Alcohol is Dynamite! Sit back and watch old-timey people in outdated clothes and hairstyles (except for the looks that are back in style, from which you can take fashion tips) as they lecture us about weakening to peer pressure and buckling to temptation. See what alcohol does to your brain (hint: there’s a picture of a caveman), learn how to outsmart underage hippie kids, and explore the nature of mankind as compared to a nature show (That last one is kind of hard to explain, but trust us, you want to see it).

As if that’s not enough fun for the night, you can also do your part to undermine the message of these adorably sincere films by enjoying the special AV Geeks beer bucket, consisting of 6 delicious beers selected just for this event. Be careful not to drink them all too quickly though, lest you become a live action version of these terrifying cautionary tales.
