Encyclopedia Show: Mythical Beasts

Word around town is that The Encyclopedia Show is fucking great. Seriously, that's what we've been told by every writer, lit lover, friend, drinking buddy, etc. we've asked. Sometimes we asked just hoping to hear something different - for the love of books, say something different! - only to be told each time, verbatim, 'It's Fucking Great!'. So, that seems reason enough to believe that this latest series of artists showcasing their original encyclopedia entries on a topic selected by the shows curators (Michael Graupmann and new Austinist contributor Ralph Hardesty) will be uh, fucking great.

Even if you ain't too keen on lurn'n, don't feel intimidated by the term "encyclopedia" in the title - this is a variety show/reading series to help you learn about important subjects in a way that is fun and fancy free...hooray! The theme of the show tonight is Mythical Beasts, because who doesn't want to learn more about Chthulu, Chupacabra and ligers - though that last one may be a mythical creation of a mythical beast, but whatevs. Hearing smart people say witty things over a loud speaker about creatures that we all wish existed is probably the best way to spend a hot wet August night in Austin. And if you've already gone, tell us what you learned!

Thanks, Sarah! I didn't want to post about my own show here (and if I had, I wouldn't have been nearly as kind).
