Spike Gillespie Announces Writing Workshops
Spike Gillespie, our popular columnist who holds forth each week on topics including her hot temper, frequently costumed dogs, and overwhelming love for Austin has announced two writing workshops to take place at the end of September.
Both workshops will take place once a week for six weeks. The first will begin on Tuesday, Sept 28th, and is entitled "Six Weeks of Tuesdays: What Fresh Hell Is This?" The purpose of this workshop is to find peace through writing. To quote Spike: "This workshop is targeted at those of you who are currently suffering. If you are going through/have gone through a recent divorce or breakup, lost a loved one, lost a job, can't stand your family, and/or are struggling in other ways and would like to find some catharsis through writing (believe me, it works) this session is for you. Please note this is not therapy but it will be therapeutic. Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Stricken: The 5,000 Stages of Grief, which I conceived, co-edited, and contributed to."
The second workshop begins on Thursday, September 30th and is entitled "Six Weeks of Thursdays: I Just Have to Know." The purpose of this workshop is to council writers currently working in first-person/memoir mode, or who want to do so. Again, Spike sez it best: "This is for those of you who are either currently working on first person/memoir/blogs or who keep meaning to commit yourself to getting your ass in the chair because you just have to know-- can you do it? Can you write in a sustained fashion? And really, do you even want to? You won't know until you try."
Again, both workshops take place for six weeks on their given days. The classes will go from 7-9pm, both cost 200 bucks, and the setting has yet to be determined. If you have more questions, Spike doesn't mind if you email her. Delicious-looking platters of meat not included.
