Earlier this year, Amy Cook released Let the Light In, a brilliant, multi-layered album. Produced by Alejandro Escovedo, the record watches Cook swing between the rock'n'roll goddess she is and the more emotive, sentimental crooner she can be. Though her relationship with the guitar is key, and her playing subtle but poignant, it's really her voice that takes center stage on most of the songs. She has this wonderful flexibility in her tone -- she can flutter high, indulging in her femininity, but she can also turn on a dime, reeling you into a warm, milky come-hither. It can't hurt having Patty Griffin and the Tosca String Quartet with you, either.

She's also on of the more interesting interviews we've had here on the site. Back in April, she said of working with Escovedo, "Liz (Lambert, her girlfriend) knew Alejandro and I was with her when he approached me and said he liked my songs, and said I should open some shows. And then, I was opening some shows. He is an amazing songwriter and such a compelling and brilliant performer. He understands songs, the dynamics of a song. He is a really great arranger."

We agree. Follow the jump to see the video for "Hotel Lights", which was recorded at (not surprisingly) Hotel San Jose, Hotel Saint Cecilia and Pearl Brewery. Buy the vinyl version of Let the Light In now at her site, at Waterloo, and at her shows. Amy will perform on August 4th at Blues on the Green.
