Summer Static: A Short Cinema Program by Homoscope
This Thursday, the folks over at Homoscope are looking to take on the Hollywood establishment (specifically you, Jolie) by presenting Summer Static, a showcase of new and gently used experimental short films, during the peak summer blockbuster season.
The program will also feature the premiere of local filmmaker Bug Davidson's short film, Big Bright Future, which hilariously addresses the complications of being an adult in a queer community. Mark Taylor's Sensing the World by Echo, a 17-minute video collage of mid-century children's books, how-to manuals, and academic texts, tells the story of growing up feeling like an alien from outer space. Selections from Karl Cronin's series of 66 short films, entitled The Wild Men, tell the romance of a young farm hand and a logger passing through loneliness, connection, loss, and spiritual awakening. Dorian Wood's music video for Pianos and Bricks, directed by filmmaker and curator Dino Dinco will also be screened.
Tickets range from $7-15 and all proceeds go to benefit the Homoscope film festival, which takes place August 29th. The annual festival features experimental short films, live performances, and visual art in an effort to celebrate queer culture and creativity as an alternative to the mainstream. Hybrid Vigor Productions is sponsoring the event at the Off Center Theater, with a reception and drinks to follow.
