  • The Black and White Years have successfully managed to make the not-always-so-easy transition from Red River St. to mainstream Austin radars over the course of the last couple of years. Their stellar self-titled debut full-length garnered them a fair share of acclaim, including the coveted “Best New Band” award in 2009 at the Austin Music Awards. The band dropped the Nursery Myths EP in September last year and is currently hard at work on a second LP. This Saturday, they headline A Summer Dance Party, the latest installment of The Sessions series, which is shifting locations from The Hideout Theatre to the One World Theatre for this show. Doors at 8 p.m.; L.A.X. and Cowboy and Indian open.
  • Also on Saturday, The Parish presents a handful of other candidates primed to make that switch from the underground to mainstream. Current local darlings The Bright Light Social Hour, perennial favorites The Lemurs, the unerringly brilliant Frontier Brothers, and talented songstress Suzanna Choffel comprise this evening’s mouth-watering bill at the redoubtable Sixth Street venue. All for the paltry sum of $8.
  • Ron Strong ProductionsHot Sh!t series rolls on at Club de Ville this weekend. California’s Baths, and Texans Freshmillions, Butcher Bear & Charlie, and DJ Chicken George furnish the beats on Friday, while Saturday’s lineup features Dr. Strangeloop (L.A.), along with locals NickNack, Ernest Gonzalez, and Reaganometry.
