ASO & Fireworks at Auditorium Shores [July 4th Concert]

Streets near Auditorium Shores will be closed on July 4th as thousands of Austinites flock to the park for the annual musical and fireworks show put on by the Austin Symphony Orchestra. The outdoor musical program will feature the usual Sousa marches and "Star Spangled Banner," as well as works by Rodgers, Ellington, Barber, and more. The 1812 Overture will accompany the fireworks, of course -- with help from cannons from the Texas National Guard Salute Battery.

The concert starts at 8:30pm, with the fireworks planned to begin about 9:30pm. Get to the park early to claim a spot, bring a picnic (no alcohol or glass allowed, though), and enjoy the free show.

So the festivities honoring the American declaration of independence from Britain will once again conclude with a Russian composer's opus to a British general's victory over the French?
