Alex Update [Storm Watch]

Hurricane Alex made landfall last night along the northeastern coast of Mexico, about 110 miles south of Brownsville. It has since been downgraded to a tropical storm.

Initial reports on loss of life vary and at this time are speculative. However, thousands of lives have been affected by major flooding and evacuations along Mexico's coast.

Alex also disrupted clean up efforts at the BP oil spill, with high waves creating dangerous operating conditions for ships there. The storm pushed more oil towards the beaches of Louisiana and Alabama.

The National Weather Service says that locally we could feel the effect of the storm into the weekend, although Travis County is no longer under a flash flood watch. Areas of South Central Texas remain under a Flash Flood Watch until 7PM tonight.
