...because he was in the band Folk Implosion, which had a big hit with the pop oddity "Natural One," right? Barlow is a lo-fi legend, and he found his greatest successes as the bassist and occasional songwriter of Dinosaur Jr., and later as the principal songwriter and guitarist for the band Sebadoh. The band hit paydirt with 1994's Bakesale, gross cover art and all.

After Sebadoh we had the Folk Implosion period, and in the mid-aughts Barlow released a couple of solo records (while also reuniting with his old bands for shows here and there). His last solo record was released at the tail-end of last year. Entitled Goodnight Unknown, it also features guest musicians like Dino Jr.'s Murph and Lisa Germano.

Opening up for Barlow are Texans Sara Jaffe and Danny Malone. Jaffe is on tour with Barlow, and very recently came out with an album entitled Suburban Nature out on Kirtland Records. Malone is a singer-songwriter whose latest album is entitled Cuddlebug - a perfect summation of his sweet and inviting songcraft.

reaching into a toilet for godknowswhat...I know that doesn't phase you, Cliff, but I feel differently.

  • How is the cover art for Bakesale gross? It's just chubby baby Lou, at probably the high point of is career (i.e., one year old).
