Denton's Midlake have come a long way from their beginning as a lonely group of jazz students getting together to jam. Over the years, their music has launched them into an international spotlight, and after the media frenzy and massive touring surrounding their 2006 new classic Trails of Van Occupanther, all eyes were on their return to the scene this year.

In February, the band returned with The Courage of Others, a decidedly non-Trials sounding album that moved the group in a new direction without abandoning the elements Midlake founded their career on. Tim Smith's newfound affection for '60s psych pop (namely Pentangle and Fairport Convention, influences that have been aptly documented this year) filters throughout the entire affair, and these new sounds match well with the group's melancholy ethos. It's a slow listen, and one that requires a bit of patience for its pay off, but the time spent is undoubtedly worth it. The live show has become another beast entirely, as the five piece has swollen to seven, and begun to include flutes, recorders, bells and tambourine as part of the performance. We're sure that Friday's show at Antone's will be one to remember, and we'd like you to go! Fill out the form after the jump for a chance to win a pair of tickets courtesy of Austinist.

Opening will be John Grant, whose Queen of Denmark record is out now on Bella Union. Midlake was his backing band for that release, so the tour partnership seems like a fitting one.

Here's a bonus second way to win tickets to the show. Answer the question below by sending your answer to midlakecontest@gmail.com and you'll be entered to win tickets to the show as well as an Acts of Man 12" vinyl. That's a deal!
