Preview: Chaos In Tejas at The Mohawk, United States Art Authority, Broken Neck, and More [Friday]

SXSW. Check. Austin Psych Fest. Check. Pachanga. Check. It’s now time for our city’s next big music carnival, Chaos In Tejas.

The sixth edition of this annual celebration of all things punk and hardcore (and everything in between) kicked off yesterday, but if you didn’t make it out last night, fear not, for the mayhem continues through Sunday.

As always, producer Timmy Hefner has assembled a mouth-watering mix of relevant national acts, talented local luminaries, and not-to-be-missed legends for our pleasure. The sonic onslaught at The Mohawk this evening is especially appealing -- outside stage attractions include sinister fuzz-punk from Woven Bones, noisy riff-pop from Jeff The Brotherhood, and exhilarating guitar-rock from The Ponys. Ume’s calculated eruptions on the inside stage ensure the night ends in explosive fashion.

As you’ll notice, the festival is taking over quite a few different venues around town and the chaos is scheduled to last for many, many hours. There are a couple of day shows, one at Beerland at 3 p.m., and another at the United States Art Authority, next to Spider House. For the night owls, there’s an after-hours bash at the Broken Neck, located at 4707 Red Bluff Rd, featuring the apocalyptic sounds of World Burns To Death. No need to reach for that questionable energy drink when all you need is an hour of vicious hardcore, delivered with boundless vigor and plentiful passion.
