Officer Goes from Corrections Uniform to Prison Uniform
The corrections officer girlfriend of convicted murderer Milton Gobert was indicted in Travis County Wednesday on third-degree felony charges of bringing prohibited items into a corrections facility. Tasha Lass, 36, who testified during his sentencing trial last March, admitted to both being romantically involved with Gobert and supplying him with a cell phone so the two could "talk about his case" [News8Austin]. Another corrections officer performing a search of Gobert’s cell found the phone in the bottom of a bag of cheese puffs.
If convicted, Lass could face up to 10 years in prison.
Gobert was convicted in March 2010 of the murder of Mel Cotton. Cotton was found stabbed over 100 times in a North Austin apartment in 2003. Her son, who was 5 at the time of his mother’s murder, was also stabbed during the attack. He survived and provided the prosecution with eyewitness testimony.
Lass is not the first corrections officer to supposedly have a fling with Gobert. In 2007, Patricia Wieczorek resigned from her position as a corrections officer after reportedly being questioned about her relationship with the inmate.
