Today marks the first onslaught of 2010's Chaos in Tejas festival, and it's a doozy this year. Just today we're counting three day shows, four night shows, and two “late night” shows. That’s a total of nine venues hosting punk rock, art and photo shows, and - at the late shows - free beer “while it lasts.”

Let’s start with the day shows. The US Art Authority is having an art show beginning at 4pm with exhibits by Winston Smith and Bryan Ray Turcotte. It’s free, and at 4:30 Sonskull plays, followed by Mammoth Grinder at 5:15 and Obliteration at 6. A photo show is taking place at Rio Rita (also free), and The Parlor in Hyde Park is hosting yet another free art show entitled the “Hardcore Poster Unawful Assembly,” which consists of posters for gigs by Paul D’Elia and Jack Barfield.

Now, for the night shows. Emo’s has a big bill, with the doors opening at 7pm and Mother of Mercy going on at 8:10. Both stages will feature bands, including Finland’s Kykloopien Sukupuutto (10:05). Buy your tickets ($18) here.

Meanwhile, Red 7 opens its doors at 8pm with a performance by locals Wild America at 9. The exciting bill also features San Francisco’s Ty Segall at 11:20, Seattle’s The Spits and X (the one from Australia). Tickets are $16 and can be purchased here.

Beerland also opens up at 8pm, and the bill includes Austin band Broken Gold going on at 10:30 and the goofy Nobunny at 11:20. $6 tickets can be purchased here.

Last, Beauty Bar is featuring soul DJ Jonathan Toubin spinning from 9pm to 2am, and a dance contest at midnight with a grand prize of $100 bucks. The eclectic judges of this competition include Tim Kerr, How I Quit Crack and more. Five bucks at the door.

Okay, so your days and evenings are planned. What about when it gets really late? Well, for five more dollars you can stop into the Broken Neck and see Kyklooppein Sukupuutto again (or for the first time, if you missed their performance at Emo’s) as well as Arctic Flowers and The Altars.

501 Studios, meanwhile, is having eight bands play, including No Tolerance, Mens Interest and more. That’ll be $7, and, again, both of these late shows feature free beer until there’s no more.
