New Release Tuesday: LCD Soundsystem, Spoon, Rangda and Woven Bones

New Release Tuesday is back, with more editor's picks on this week's most interesting and popular indie rock releases. There's a lot to look forward to this week at your favorite record store, including a vinyl reissue of Spoon's Kill the Moonlight, the Rangda album (another Drag City super group) and the Locust Peel Sessions CD / vinyl. Also, don't forget to go pick up your copy of Austin's own Woven Bones' In and Out and Back Again, which is officially available in stores today. All that being said, the one big, unavoidable and truly important release of this week is the new LCD Soundsystem.

LCD Soundsystem This Is Happening (DFA)

James Murphy's LCD Soundsystem has become the favorite of both uptight music nerds and free-wheelin' hipster dancers. His off-beat, punk influenced dance tracks mix a wry sense of humor with an undeniably beat and usually leave quite a mark. This Is Happening doesn't mess with the nuts and bolts of that approach. Murphy is once again wrestling with the meaning of cool, and using Eno and Byrne as touchstones across the record as evidence of his quarry. He's stepped a bit off the dancefloor and has written quite a few tunes that actually seem to be about relationships -- real ones. This is all good news, of course, because the songwriting is still incredible and the pertinent elements are all in place. Fans of LCD Soundsystem will find little fault with this magical, fun and still self-incriminating album. Listen to "Drunk Girls".
