This Friday's HYP Gala is a Night to Change Lives

This Friday evening, Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) will host its fourth annual HYP Gala at South Austin's Mercury Hall.

A fundraising event, all proceeds from HYP Gala go directly toward giving a hardworking Austin family a chance at homownership. This year's event benefits future homeowners Francisco and Vilma Arellano, who fled war-torn Nicaragua nearly three decades ago and subsequently raised their 22-year-old daughter in Section 8 housing. With the money raised this year, construction of what will be the third HYP Build begins June 5th.

"Austin professionals are unique in that they want to have a great time and develop their networks but are also extremely committed to strengthening the Austin community by providing financial support to help those in need," said Kate Stoker, HYP Gala's PR chair. "The HYP Gala is an opportunity to do it all at once—raise the funds needed to build a home for a deserving family and have a great time in the process, so you're getting the best of both worlds."

The gala will feature a full open bar and an array of samplings from Austin eateries including Moonshine, Maudie's, Max's Wine Dive, Central Market, and Frank. Additionally, there will be live music, an auction, and, to work off the food and drink, a late-night dance party with Austin's DJ Manny.

Tickets are $75 for members and $85 for non-members and can be purchased online.

HYP was founded in 2006 and hosts regular social hours, fundraising and volunteer opportunities. Each year, the organization commits to raising $65,000 to sponsor a home. For information on joining HYP, click here.
