Renegade Craft Fair Interview: Figs & Ginger
This week, the Austinist will be bringing you interviews with selected artists who are participating in this weekend's Renegade Craft Fair.
Figs and Ginger is an eco-friendly jewelry company from Asheville, NC, run by Elijah and Rhonda Wyman. Their sterling silver jewelry has attracted attention for sweet and simple designs as well as their eco practices. They are seasoned Renegade vendors, and took a moment to share some details with us - including their love for the open road, Renegade Craft fair, and sustainable living.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hey there! We're Elijah & Rhonda Wyman, currently living in Asheville, NC, but we met & grew up in the Boston area 'till about 3 years ago.
Tell us a little bit about your company.
We're a lil' family business that hopes to grow in a sustainable & responsible way. We currently make bunches of cute lil' forest inspired jewelry in recycled sterling silver. Rhonda went to school for metalsmithing at RISD, Elijah went to school for creative writing. We were married in 2004 (Elijah was only 19, Rhonda 23!) He's a touring folk/pop musician under the name "tiny mtns". Our goal is to tour with both Figs & tiny mtns together with our vintage pink & teal trailer.
Is this your first time at a Renegade craft fair event?
We have done every Renegade at some point or another. We love Renegades and were super super excited that one was going to Austin.
What can craft fair attendees expect to find at your booth?
We'll have recycled sterling bunny, fawn, bird, & leaf jewelry priced at $20, $40, & $60.
What item of yours would you like to receive as a gift?
Rhonda wants to be a mom at some point soon, so probably one of the mother's necklaces. They're cute & hip & different than the other mother's necklaces around.
Are there any other artists whose work you're looking forward to seeing at Renegade?
We always love to see Foundling's new work, & we collect Mat Daly's prints. But we're excited to see new vendors that we haven't met yet. Craft shows are great, it's like meeting up with your friends all around the country and eating new food with them. We love craft shows.
Be sure to see Figs and Ginger's work in person this weekend at the Renegade Craft Fair. Check out our preview for more info.
