Pachanga: Five Minutes With Brownout

Leading up to Pachanga (May 21st and 22nd at Fiesta Gardens), we’ll be spending five minutes with many of the artists scheduled to perform at the festival. Today, we catch up with Austin’s Brownout.

What does a perfect Pachanga entail?

Friends and family, good food, loud music, and strong as hell drinks.

Does Austin deserve to host a Latino Music Festival?

Definitely does, no question. I'm sure there's more Latin music in other parts of the state or country but there are great resources for a festival here and a super supportive community to keep these things alive.

Flaco Jiménez or Selena?

No disrespect to Selena, may she rest in peace...but Flaco Jiménez. Anyone who can actually drink us under the table we fear for life.

What is right or wrong with the music industry today?

Right is that the major labels are having to reevaluate their approach to music; wrong is that independent labels are starting to have to reevaluate THEIR approach as well.

If you could invite one musician, living or dead, on stage with you, who would it be?

First pick: Tim Maia; second pick: Jack Black.

Thank you for spending five minutes with Austinist.
