Church of the Friendly Ghost Kickstarts for a New Music Festival

We're always excited when locals The Church of the Friendly Ghost announce a new type of performance, whether it's their female-centric Ladyfriends series or a party celebrating YouTube's birthday. The ambitious minds working behind the scenes at the Church never stop, and they've got a big fish to fry this summer - a festival called N.M.A.S.S. (New Media Art & Sound Summit) to take place from June 17 - 19. Read more about the festival and how you can contribute after the jump.

First of all, N.M.A.S.S. isn't strictly a music festival, but one that will also include art and performance. By day, the Salvage Vanguard will host "new media art exhibits, workshops, and classes," and the United States Art Authority will showcase "music and intermedia performances" at night.

The Church explains the festival as such: "N.M.A.S.S. is dedicated to showcasing the vastly interesting pool of creativity being generated by Austin’s hardest working musicians and artists, celebrating the diversity within Austin's creative culture...we’re interested in the new, the hybrid, the irreverent, the now, the fertile, the intentional, the brave, the adventurous, the deviant, the unknown, the untested, the out."

If you're an Austin-based artist and interested in applying for the festival, shoot them an email. Again, the festival is open to "artists, composers, and musicians," and they'd like you to send a "short resume, work samples, and a brief description of the piece you'd like to do by May 14th, 2010."

If you're not necessarily a potential performer but would like to ensure the festival comes to fruition, visit their kickstarter campaign and drop them some dollars.
