  • We’ve been fans of Learning Secrets for quite a while now. Besides constantly hosting bumping residencies around town (currently every Friday at Red Fez), LS regularly brings in revered DJs and the like. This Thursday, at Republic Live, LS presents Erol Alkan, disc jockey, producer, musician, and all-around bad-ass purveyor of pulsating beats galore. Somewhat of a legend, at least in the U.K., Alkan was an integral part of the fabled Trash events in London, and has worked with acts such as The Long Blondes and Boyz Noize. He has also remixed material by a whole slew of luminaries including Franz Ferdinand, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hot Chip, Justice, and Klaxons. A rather impressive resume, if you ask us. Don’t miss out on this inevitable dance party -- get your tickets here. And check out this hilarious promo video by the LS team.

  • The Frontier Brothers celebrate the release of their new EP You Should Start A Band on Friday at The Parish. Check out the video for the title track via YouTube. The stellar bill this evening also includes The Lemurs, The Bright Light Social Hour, and J Edgar Groover (DJ set).

  • Knuckle Rumbler presents Jigga Stardust, the latest edition of its Versus series on Saturday at Scoot Inn, this time in conjunction with The Glitoris. Orión and Prince Klassen will be at the helm as always, mixing and mashing all the Jay-Z and David Bowie classics we love. RSVP on Do512 or wear a New York Yankees cap for $3 entry. Or wear a “visible leotard” for free entry. Annie Ray will be on hand to capture all the memorable outfits in her “Glitter and Gangster” photo-booth.
