Neil Young's "Twisted Road" Leads to Austin

Neil Young

Legendary folk singer Neil Young is hitting the road in 2010 on the Twisted Road tour. A few dates had been released prior to this posting, but today we're happy to announce that Young will indeed be performing in Austin, at Bass Concert Hall, on Saturday, June 5. These dates mark his first in this region in over a decade. British-by-Scotland folk legend Bert Jansch (Pentangle) will open the shows.

The show will not only include tunes from 2009's Fork in the Road, it will feature brand new, as yet unrecorded tracks and a spattering of classics for the fans. Fork in the Road (Reprise) was inspired by Young's Lincoln Continental that he reconfigured to run via alternative energy. Despite the record's unfortunate artwork, Young's vocal performance on it was nominated for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance at the 52nd Grammy Awards, 2010. Fork in the Road, however, is only one small part of Young's 50 year career, and we're sure to be surprised and amazed by whatever set list he conjures on what is sure to be an unforgettable evening.

Tickets go on sale Friday 4/9 at noon via Texas Performing Arts, 800.983.BEVO and all Texas Box Office Outlets. Austinist will be Tweeting with links to ticket sales on Friday morning, so follow us!

I appreciate the Bass Concert Hall architectural renovation, but considering the venue, the terrible acoustics should have been top priority. I'm not an architect or sound engineer, but surely something beyond curtains could be applied. The BCH is an embarrassment to the Live Music Capital and a rip-off for anyone seated mid-mezzanine or mid-balcony. Maybe an egg carton drive could provide the solution.

I can sympathize with the decision to keep the hard seats because of the additional cleaning from the food concessions, but they could at least sell or provide plastic seat pads. Maybe Miracle Ears too.

Performing artists should be made aware of the reverb. If they banned together, the TPA would be forced to fund the Elmers Glue for the egg cartons.

Now that the presale is over, I wonder if anyone else realized you posted the presale code? Did you get tix Colonel?

  • whoooo

Ticket prices are high because Bert Jansch gets $2.14 from every ticket sold. Wait, no, that's not the reason...

Seems like a show for the KGSR crowd. Definitely is @ those prices.

  • whoooo

You mean "what used to be a KGSR crowd". Cause the new KGSR plays a weird mix of 80s Top 40 and 90s alt-rock songs that drove away all the Neil Young fans.

Unfortunately, the ticket prices are really pricey -

    $249.50/199.50/99.50/59.50

Yeah I was just counting straight up solo shows ...

Fair enough! I guess the last solo show was the Bass Concert Hall show in what? 1999?

For what it's worth, Neil Young & Crazy Horse played Willie Nelson's July 4th picnic in 2003 out in Spicewood. (And with CSN&Y in 2002 at the Erwin Center)

  • SO GLAD I went to the show you mentioned wattage.

Willie's 4th is looking great this year, I would rather spend my 70ish dollars elsewhere. Neil doesn't have a Tax Debt with the IRS.

The highlight of that Willie Picnic show was when he mocked the Eagles in the middle of Prisoners of Rock and Roll (could have been another song in the set).
